How can Scotland's experience of local green economies inform global policy discussions on sustainable development?

The ‘green economy' will be one of the two major themes addressed at the ‘Rio+20' UN Conference on Sustainable Development, also referred to as ‘Earth Summit 2012. As part of the preparations for the conference, the UN Secretary General is engaging with Member States  to inform his report for the Summit. SSDF has partnered with Stakeholder Forum for a day of discussion and debate with high profile speakers and workshops. The outcomes of the discussions will be shared with the UK government and help inform their submission.

A series of case studies of sustainable micro-economies in Scotland will be presented.

Case studies include:

  •  LETS Link (Local Exchange trading Schemes)
  •  Ekopia Community Currency
  •  Borders Energy Farming Forum
  •  Westmill Community Wind Cooperative
  •  Fintry Development Trust
  •  DSL Micro Financing
  •  Binn Farm Eco Park

And more! The day's agenda can be downloaded here.

Background Information on the Earth Summit and the content of the afternoon workshops can be found on the Earth Summit 2012 website: Earth Summit 2012 website.

The conference will be held at Edinburgh's Radisson Blu Hotel on 21st September. The hotel was awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development 2010 and we are excited to be supporting this pioneering conference venue.
