What are we doing now?
Group 1
- Seminars (and other mechanisms) to share good practice
- Eco Schools will operate in Scotland in 2011-2012 (Scottish Government Funding)
- People and Planet empowering students in universities and colleges to run low carbon initiatives
- Scottish Government promoting and monitoring UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (UNDESD) Action Plan
- NUS promoting and developing Green Skills and work experience for students
- Making films to promote awareness of “the big picture”.
- Delivering research learning to practitioners and partnering with them to implement findings
- Enabling people to be involved in their organisation’s sustainability agenda.
Group 2
- Devising learning and teaching resources
- In-service courses for teachers with a focus on SDC
- Working in partnership with local and national organisation on SDE projects – training, networking, supporting groups / communities we work with
- Research project- ESD resources for youth work
- Feasibility of Eco Clubs
- Bringing everyone together for this ESD conference
- Setting up food, energy, travel and consumption projects and educating Edinburgh students and staff by enrolling them e.g. “Carbon Conversations”.
- Designing Futures Project (university + secondary schools, community...).
Group 3
- Reduced CO2 by 25% internally – engaging staff, empowering people and ownership over sustainability – structured approach, e.g. NUS Green Impact
- Lobbying University – pushing sustainability agenda with university senior management (People & Planet Green League).
- Face-to-face interactions that create stronger campus community.
- Low-carbon cooking workshops
- Local holidays (subsidised)
- Energy Audits of flats
- Cycle maintenance skills share
- Film nights / talks – awareness raising and discussions around student lifestyles
- Veg Bag – organic and local food cooperative
